Consultations and Call for Evidence in Probate Matters

Consultations and Call for Evidence in Probate Matters

We put in tremendous amount of work in relation to the SRA proposals  concerning Post Six Year Run Off Cover. In this case there was a successful outcome with protection for consumers continued on reasonable terms.

We also sent our comments to the Law Commission who are reviewing the law on electronic wills (should they be allowed and what are the dangers) and the automatic revocation of wills upon marriage.

Now the Justice Select Committee has put out a call for evidence as they are examining problems with the Probate Registry. The deadline for written submissions is 22nd January 2024.  Our committee speaks of ongoing frustrations for them and their clients when dealing with probates and letters of administration. If you have any examples you can provide us with which are indicative of the current issues, please email the Society before 9th January 2024.

This initiative is being led by Committee Member Rachael Leathley at Hay and Kilner assisted by Committee Member Rachel Swinburne, Past President Alison Hall and Harriet Campbell from WBD.
